Sally Shaw is a postdoctoral researcher and professional dark matter hunter working at UC Santa Barbara. Originally from Nottingham in the UK, she completed her PhD in particle physics at University College London in 2016, then moved out to California to continue working on the currently-under-construction LZ dark matter detector. She is often found wearing a hard hat and coveralls in a gold-mine-turned-underground-laboratory 1 mile beneath the surface in South Dakota, and her work mainly focuses on ensuring any signal seen by LZ is really a never-seen-before dark matter particle and not a fake!
