Melissa T. Miller is a local science writer whose bylines include Nerdist, Scientific American, and Star Wars Insider. She’s also a scientist at Scripps Oceanography, traveling the world to deploy robotic floats that collect data.Melissa co-hosts the podcast Star Warsologies, where scientists share how their expertise overlaps with Star Wars. She loves to overthink all the science we see in our favorite pop culture properties, from Star Trek to The Fast and the Furious and has also organized panels for the Comic-Con Museum and Star Wars Celebration.
Melissa helps run Nerd Nite San Diego, a bi-monthly event where experts present their science and other pursuits in front of a rowdy crowd at a dive bar. She is also a board member of the San Diego Science Writers Association, which provides field trips and networking events for science communicators of all types and career levels.
