Before realizing the dream of becoming a comics pro, Marv Wolfman was an active fan and fanzine publisher in the 1960s.
His first published pro work as a comics writer appeared in DC’s Blackhawk #242 (1968). He continued to write for DC until moving to Marvel in 1972, where he would become editor-in-chief before stepping down to focus more on writing. While at Marvel, he and artist gene Colan collaborated on The Tomb of Dracula, for which comic they created the popular character Blade.
In 1980, Marv returned to DC where he teamed up with artist George Pérez to create the hugely-popular New Teen Titans, which included their character creations Raven, Starfire, and Cyborg. In 1985 the Wolfman-Pérez partnership produced the landmark DC series Crisis on Infinite Earths. Since then, Marv has continued to be active as a writer and editor for DC, Disney, Fox Kids (animation), and more.
He is the winner of the Comic-Con Inkpot Award (1979), three Eagle Awards (1982, 1984, 1985), two Jack Kirby Awards with George Pérez (1985, 1986), was honored by DC as one of the Fifty Who Made DC Great (1985), and has been inducted into the Eisner Hall of Fame (2011).
