Director John Bruno is an Academy Award winner and veteran of feature films and commercials. He won his Oscar for his work on The Abyss and was on the Academy Award-winning visual effects team of Avatar. He has also been nominated for an Oscar six-times in the field of Visual Effects for his work on Ghostbusters, Poltergeist II, Batman Returns, Cliffhanger and True Lies. He is one of the most acclaimed and sought after visual-effects artists and directors in Hollywood.
He has most recently served as visual effects supervisor on Hercules: the Thracian Wars, Twilight: Breaking Dawn 1 and 2, Avatar, Rush Hour 3, X-Men: The Last Stand, and Alien vs. Predator, and was 3-D consultant on Monsters vs Aliens.
Bruno was part of the team that established DIGITAL DOMAIN in 1994 and in 1995 spent five months in the pre-production phase of Titanic as visual-effects supervisor (making the first of four dives to the famous ship). Prior to this, he designed the visual effects for James Cameron’s Terminator 2 and co-directed T2 3-D: Battle Across Time with Cameron.
John Bruno is a longtime collaborator of James Cameron has joined him on three deep ocean expeditions (Titanic in 1995, Ghosts of the Abyss in 2001) that now include James Cameron’s Deepsea Challenge 3D expedition, the recently-released film of which he directed.
