Thanks to everyone who helped make San Diego Comic Fest 2017 so much fun! The special theme of the Fest was the celebration of the 2017 centennial of the birth of Jack Kirby, the King of Comics, and we’d like to thank our many guests, volunteers, and attending fans who helped make that such a success. Jack Kirby was a great creator and a wonderful person and it was an honor to get to pay tribute to him at the Fest.

Next, after a well-deserved rest, our volunteers will be meeting to discuss next year’s Fest, about which you can expect announcements in the near future. In the meantime, here’s one thing we can let you in on, the theme for the next Fest, which will be the 200th anniversary in 2018 of a little book you may have heard of:

The programming schedule for the 2017 San Diego Comic Fest is now online at http://www.sdcomicfest.org/programming/.

We are especially pleased to be presenting special guests and programs in connection with our celebration of the 2017 Jack Kirby Centennial. Among these will be panels on “Jack Kirby: The Creator” and “Jack Kirby: The Man” with panelists Mark Evanier (former assistant to Jack Kirby and author of Kirby: King of Comics), Steve Sherman (former assistant to Jack Kirby), and Mike Royer (Kirby’s personal choice to ink his “Kirby’s Fourth World” comics for DC and his work when he later returned to Marvel). Silver Age comic art scholar Arlen Schumer will present “The Centennial of the King of Comics, Jack Kirby.” Barry Ira Geller will speak on working with Kirby on designs for a Lord of Light theme park (with Kirby’s design art being later used as part of a successful plan to rescue American citizens from Iran as portrayed in the Oscar-winning film Argo), on another panel several fans will tell tales of their personal encounters with the “King,” and, of course, central to the Fest will be a Kirby-themed cafe.

Jack “King” Kirby’s centennial will only come once. We hope you will join us to celebrate it and honor a great comics creator and great human being.

The San Diego Comic Fest 2014 program schedule is now online. This year our online schedule may easily be viewed in multiple formats including a version optimized for mobile devices.

It’s really an amazing roster of programs about comics, science-fiction & fantasy, animation, special effects, and films and we’re looking forward to sharing it with you. It’s such a great experience when you can see and hang out with so many wonderful guests and panelists in a relaxed, uncrowded setting such as the San Diego Comic Fest.

Please join us at the Town & Country Resort & Convention Center on October 17-19, 2014 for the third annual Fest. It’s really going to be fun!

Thanks to the generous folks at Comic-Con International, the San Diego Comic Fest will once again have a table at WonderCon! This year, WonderCon returns to the Anaheim Convention Center on April 18-20, 2014. If you can make it to WonderCon, be sure to stop by our table and chat with our volunteers about this year’s Fest, and in case you can’t make it to WonderCon, above is a copy of the flyer we will be handing out.
